JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB SUMMARY

This position will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with Economic Development, business community at large, and the Events Specialist. The Social Media Specialist’s responsibility is to lead the tactical and day to day operations of social media and communications initiatives across multiple social media accounts, assist with media relations write and edit internal and external publications. Work involves communication and coordination with various departments and organizations. Tasks require a strong attention to detail, excellent digital customer service skills and ability to work under deadlines. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Support the Economic Development team in maintaining social media outlets, content creation, and website design. 
  • Creation of new social media platforms such as TicTock, Instagram, and Twitter, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, and others not listed. 
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues and provide technical support. 
  • Assists with website design specifically to visitpagelakepowell.com 
  • Responds to social media inquiries. 
  • Creates content for social media outlets including events hosted by City and other entities within city limits. 
  • Assists with development of branding and marketing schemes including banner ad design and print media design. 
  • Trains users to use new or modified social media platforms. 
  • Assists with Public Relations and informing the public through social media of any city emergencies. 
  • Day to day lead for social media monitoring, planning, strategy, content creation, posting and issue spotting. 
  • Responsible for conceiving, creating, executing, and managing written and visual social content aligned with the brand, campaign, strategy, or project. 
  • Lead and execute creative content development and influencer outreach, conversation management, user engagement and analytics reporting 
  • Analyze campaign metrics to guide content creation and identify needed changes or enhancements to support social media strategy. Provide monthly reports for leadership and team. 
  • Write press releases, talking points, media advisories. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Web design, digital design, marketing, or communications major, preferred. 
  • Familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Graphic Design, Web Design, and Windows operating systems, preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing effective metric-based social strategy. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of social platforms and reporting analytics. 
  • Bachelor’s in related field preferred. 

Licenses or Certifications:

  •  Must maintain a valid State driver’s license. 

Special Requirements: 

  • Must have a telephone. 
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including, nights, weekends, etc. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of PC’s and the ability to install, maintain, and diagnose Microsoft operating systems and application suites. 
  • Ability to establish social media handles. 
  • Team player with a flexible schedule. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with employees, vendors, city agents and citizens. 
  • Ability to use multimedia programs to create content relevant to tourism and the community. 
  • Ability to follow standard office environment safety requirements. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot computer problems quickly and efficiently to assure minimal down time. 
  • Ability to work well in teams. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required: feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
