PAGE, AZ – At its November 12 meeting, the Page City Council voted unanimously to direct the City Manager to begin preparations to reopen the building that previously housed the Pera Club for public use. The action follows a presentation from the City’s Youth Advisory Commission, which shared results from a community survey on potential uses for the building.
The building, located at 445 Haul Road adjacent to the Page Sports Complex, was transferred to the City of Page by Salt River Project (SRP) in May 2024, concluding a multi-year effort by city leadership to secure the property for community benefit. The site previously served as an employee facility and regional gathering space before the closure of Navajo Generating Station in 2019.
During the meeting, members of the Youth Advisory Commission presented survey findings reflecting local interest in a variety of programs and activities. Participants identified strong support for health and wellness programming, arts and crafts, sports and recreation, life-skills education, and indoor activity spaces such as a study room, recreation lounge, open gym, and small library. Respondents also expressed interest in outdoor programming, fitness classes, and culinary instruction. All survey participants rated the importance of a free and safe space dedicated to Page’s youth at the highest level.
Council members expressed appreciation for the Youth Advisory Commission’s work and emphasized the value of community input as the City evaluates near-term and long-term uses of the facility. While the action taken focuses specifically on opening the building for public access, several councilors noted the importance of considering a future master plan for the broader grounds surrounding the facility, including its connection to the adjacent sports complex.
Mayor Steven Kidman seconded the motion to move forward with reopening the building. The motion passed unanimously with support from Vice Mayor Mike Farrow and Councilors Kenna Hettinger, David Auge, Tom Preller, Amanda Hammond, and Debi Roundtree.
“This action reflects the City’s commitment to making the Pera Club building a resource our community can begin benefiting from again,” said City Manager Frank Marbury. “Our staff will evaluate the facility’s immediate needs to prepare the site for phased public access.”
City staff will begin assessing the steps necessary to prepare the building for initial public use and will work with relevant departments, including the Community Center and Page Public Library, to identify operational needs as the facility opens.
