CITY OF PAGE REMOVES UNAUTHORIZED SIGNS FROM PUBLIC PROPERTY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Page Removes Unauthorized Signs from Public Property

Page AZ – The City of Page has recently removed a number of signs placed throughout the community that were installed in violation of state law and City code.

These removals are based on sign placement and compliance with applicable regulations. Under Page City Code § 152.058(B)(1)(b), signs are not allowed within any street or public right of way unless specifically authorized. In addition, § 152.058(A)(8)(h) prohibits signs temporarily affixed to poles, trees, or other structures. The City has also adopted § 130.17, which makes it unlawful to place any sign or banner on street light poles, traffic signal poles, or utility poles without prior Council authorization.

Signs placed in violation of the law are subject to removal and criminal and civil sanctions as set forth in Page City Code § 152.110.

Arizona Revised Statutes § 16-1019 provides protections for political signs placed in a right of way related to candidates for public office or issues, questions, or measures on a ballot only. These protections are subject to specific conditions, including timeframes associated with an election cycle, typically beginning approximately 71 days before an election and extending up to 15 days after. The full statute can be viewed at:

Enforcement efforts to date have been focused on signs placed illegally on City property, within public rights of way, or on public infrastructure where they are not permitted.

Removed signs have not been discarded. They are being held by the City and they are being retrieved by the individual or organization responsible for them.

Community members are encouraged to review applicable regulations before placing signage. The City’s sign code can be accessed at:
