City of Page Wastewater Treatment Plant Earns ADEQ Bronze Environmental Stewardship Award

PAGE, Ariz.
– The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has recognized the City of Page dba Page Utility Enterprise Wastewater Treatment Plant with a Bronze-level award through its Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program (VESP), honoring the facility’s record of strong environmental compliance and stewardship. The plant is operated by Page Utility Enterprise (PUE), the City entity that provides utility services throughout Page.

The VESP recognizes Arizona organizations that maintain a strong history of environmental compliance and go beyond what is legally required to protect public health and the environment. The Bronze level is available to regulated facilities with no violations on record within the past three years. The recognition is renewed every three years based on a compliance history review.

The program includes five levels of recognition, from Copper to Platinum, with the opportunity for facilities to advance to a higher level over time. Along with public recognition, participating facilities receive practical incentives such as reduced inspection frequency and reduced reporting requirements.

The Bronze certificate, issued April 15, 2026, was signed by ADEQ Director Karen Peters. The recognition reflects the daily work of the Page Wastewater Treatment Plant’s operations team.

Ensuring successful and ongoing operation of a wastewater treatment plant requires dedicated and certified staff. “Our staff leaves no stone unturned, relentlessly pursues excellence, and exhaustively ensures full compliance with Arizona Department of Environmental Quality standards. We appreciate the recognition this award brings on behalf of our team’s efforts,” said Matt Wood, Director of Page’s Water Utilities.

Wastewater from Page, Wahweap, and Greenehaven comes into the plant constantly — 24 hours a day, seven days a week, never stopping. The wastewater is converted through a number of treatment stages to a Class A effluent level. This high-grade effluent water is then provided to Lake Powell National Golf Course.

The Page Wastewater Treatment Plant will be listed on ADEQ’s VESP webpage as part of the recognition. The City of Page and Page Utility Enterprise will continue working to maintain the compliance standards that support the award and to protect the community’s water resources and environment.
