City of Page Partners with Community Organizations to Celebrate History at Powell Days
The City of Page is excited to invite residents and visitors to celebrate the legacy of Major John Wesley Powell during Powell Days on Saturday, August 22, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Page Sports Complex on 477 Haul Road.
This free and family-friendly event is presented in partnership with the Page Public Library, City of Page Recreation Department, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and the Glen Canyon Conservancy. Together, these organizations are bringing history to life through interactive activities, friendly competitions, and hands-on educational experiences for all ages.
Powell Days honors Major John Wesley Powell, who led the first U.S. Government expedition through the Green and Colorado Rivers and the Grand Canyon in 1869. The event celebrates his spirit of exploration while encouraging families to learn, play, and connect with the region’s rich history.
Families can enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day, including:
● Pioneer Challenge stations featuring knot-tying races, wagon relays, and other hands-on activities.
● A community Kickball Tournament (“Powell Ball”) for teams looking for some friendly competition.
● A Pioneer Costume Race with prizes for the winning racer and for participants who come dressed in their most creative costume.
● Water slides and family activities to help everyone cool off and enjoy the summer.
“We hope families leave Powell Days with a great appreciation for the courage, determination, and spirit of exploration that shaped our region,” said Debbie Winlock, Community Services Director. “By celebrating Major Powell’s incredible journey, we hope to inspire curiosity, perseverance, and a sense of adventure, reminding families that exploration, learning, and discovery continue to shape our community today.”
Admission is free and community members of all ages are invited to attend.
Powell Days is part of the City of Page’s ongoing efforts to create memorable, high-quality events that enhance community life and celebrate the spirit of the region. For more information, follow the City of Page on social media or visit events.cityofpage.org.
