College Golf Teams Compete at Inaugural “Bandy @ the Bend” Tournament in Page

Page AZ – The Lake Powell National Golf Course welcomed collegiate golfers from across the country this week for the inaugural “Bandy @ the Bend” tournament, hosted by Arizona Christian University and Head Coach Bryan Altena.

The tournament brought together nine men’s teams and six women’s teams, along with individual competitors, totaling approximately 90 participants. Teams traveled from across the United States, including Florida, Indiana, Idaho, California, and Arizona, highlighting Page’s growing presence as a destination for collegiate athletics.
The event concluded with strong performances across both divisions. In the men’s team competition, Embry-Riddle (A) secured first place with an even-par finish, followed by Simpson University and Arizona Christian University (A).
In the women’s division, Embry-Riddle also claimed the top team finish, with Arizona Christian University placing second and Ottawa University–Arizona finishing third.
Individually, Apollos Morris of Arizona Christian University earned first place in the men’s division with a two-round total of 138 (–6), while Charlotte Griffin of Embry-Riddle led the women’s division with a total score of 150.
The Lake Powell National Golf Course showcased exceptional playing conditions throughout the event, earning high praise from Course Superintendent Jeff Nix and the maintenance staff. Set against sweeping views of Lake Powell and the Vermilion Cliffs, the course continues to establish itself as a premier venue for competitive play in northern Arizona.
“The course showed really well this week, and it was great to see teams from all over the country experience it,” said Jake Hunter, Golf Course Manager. “Between the level of competition and the feedback from players and coaches, this is exactly the kind of event we want to keep building on.”
As part of the tournament experience, participants were provided access to Horseshoe Bend, courtesy of the City of Page. The iconic overlook was frequently cited as a highlight of the trip for visiting teams.
Based on strong participation and positive feedback from participants, organizers have expressed interest in continuing the tournament in future years.
